5 Plus-Size-Friendly Camping Chairs

The sun is beaming down on Britain at the moment, and Summer is creeping ever closer. For many people, this can only mean one thing – packing up the outdoor clothes and going on a camping trip. While it’s so much fun to be one with nature and experience the great outdoors, we recognise that camping is not always accessible for plus size people, especially when it comes to knowing which seating options will hold our weight and eliminate that constant ‘is it going to break?’ anxiety. Here are our suggestions for five plus size friendly camping chairs, so that you can enjoy your camping trip without chair anxiety, and give yourself the relaxing time outdoors that you deserve.

This chair looks exactly like a standard camping chair – and has a wide range of colour options to choose from – so you can be sure that you’re not going to stand out from your camping group. Though this chair is wider and taller than a standard camping chair to ensure that it is able to hold more weight, it actually has the lowest weight limit in our selection –  though at 400lbs this is still going to be accessible to a lot of people, and at $60 it is also very budget-friendly. 

lefeindgdi Folding Camp Chair – Camping Swing Luxury Recliner – 430lbs

When it comes to being able to sit back and relax on a camping trip, the idea of a folding chair that also reclines is anxiety-inducing for a lot of plus size people. However, the lefeindgdi Folding Camp Chair not only gives you the ability to recline, but it actually dynamically suspends you and allows you to swing back and forth, using aircraft grade flexible aluminium. This chair boasts that it can even allow you to recline and swing on uneven ground, including sand, though we haven’t tested this out ourselves. At £89.99 this chair is an investment, but one which looks like it will elevate your camping trip to the next level. 

Timber Ridge Zero Gravity Chair Oversized Recliner – 600lbs

If your camping trips involve caravans rather than tents, then the Timber Ridge Zero Gravity Oversized Recliner might be for you. This is more of a patio chair, though with a weight limit of 600lbs we wanted to include it in the list as it’d be a great option to fold up in a caravan and take out whenever you find a nice spot to relax in the sun. This isn’t our favourite chair in terms of aesthetics – for example the cupholder is handy but doesn’t look particularly nice – and at almost $300 this definitely needs to be a chair that you’re excited about. But with a weight limit of 600lbs, and a chair weight of almost 25lbs itself, this certainly seems like a chair that you can trust to be sturdy.

Browning Camping Kodiak Chair – 800lbs

The Browning Camping Kodiak Chair is a fantastic addition to this list – not only does it have a weight limit of 800lbs while only weighing 13lbs itself, making it a fantastic chair in terms of accessibility, but it’s also much cheaper than some of the other chairs on this list at only £79.95. The camo design isn’t our favourite, but with an insulated cooler in the arm rest to keep your drinks cool and a mesh back so that you know you don’t have to worry about sticking to a sweaty seat in the sunshine, we’re willing to forgive even the worst of patterns! This chair would be great for camping trips as well as family BBQs, school sports days – it would certainly get a lot of use, and we think it’d be a fantastic investment. 

Living-XL Heavy-duty Portable Chair – 1000lbs

With our highest weight limit, the Living-XL Heavy-duty Portable Chair is a relatively budget-friendly option, at only £75 for a weight limit of 1000lbs. The design is inoffensive – there are no bells and whistles, it’s just a good, solid chair that is going to give you the support that you need so that you can enjoy your camping trip without any chair anxiety. The folded chair itself weighs 15lbs so it certainly isn’t the heaviest on our list, but there are also lighter chairs out there. One of our favourite features of this chair, though, is that you can add a canopy to it, which protects you from sunburn and heatstroke while you spend time relaxing outdoors.
