Questions to Ask Hotels When You’re Plus Size

While the flight and the activities are important parts of every excursion, all too often we forget to ask the important questions about one of the most vital parts of your trip – the hotel! When you’re planning a trip as a plus size person, there are lots of little things that can make or break your holiday, and your hotel definitely doesn’t need to be one of them. To make sure that your stay is as easy and comfortable as possible, we’ve put together a handy little set of questions you can ask your hotel at the time of your booking. 

Practicality

It’s all very well looking at pictures of a gorgeous and luxurious hotel, but if it isn’t going to work for you then it’s not going to be worth the money. For example, if you’re sharing with another plus size partner and they’ve only got a standard double bed, you might find that the quality of your sleep is impacted. It’s worth asking about the size of the bed so that you know you’re booking somewhere that will leave you basking in luxury. And while we’re talking about size, if your hotel has a spa make sure you ask about the size of the robes and the towels – it might be worth bringing your own so that you can enjoy your holiday without any anxiety that your robe isn’t going to fit.

Accessibility

Accessibility is an important question for many people, not just plus size people, but there are certain accessibility needs that might be deal breakers for your stay so it’s worth asking. If your hotel room is on a high floor and you don’t feel like tackling stairs in your relaxing getaway, make sure you clarify that there is a lift in the building. Another reason you might require a lift is i you use any kind of mobility device, and if that is the case then it’s a good idea to ask about the amount of empty space in the room so that you know that your equipment is going to fit. Another great question to ask is about the seating in the hotel’s restaurant – there’s nothing quite like the stress of realising that there is booth seating or a small gap between the chair and the table which prohibits you from actually sitting down, so we definitely recommend that you ask the question to avoid that feeling.

Enjoyability

Before booking any hotel, you want to take a look at the amenities and check that you’re getting your money’s worth. Talk to your hotel about what kind of extras they can offer you – if there is a sunbed, check what size it is so that you know you’re going to be comfortable. We also love to relax in a deep, bubbly bath, so have a peek at the photos that the hotel has listed on their website to check how deep the bath is, and contact the front desk to ask if they can offer anything better if the pictures don’t look quite as deep and luxurious as you were hoping for. Finally, if you like to exercise while you’re on holiday and your hotel has a gym on site, make sure to ask about the equipment that they have to offer, as certain machinery can have weight limits that can prohibit you from enjoying the gym to the fullest.
