10 Plus-Size Travel Problems We Know All Too Well

Although travelling is an incredible and rewarding experience, anyone who has travelled in a larger body will know that it’s not always rainbows and butterflies. From small plane seats to creaky hostel beds, there are A LOT of things plus size travellers have to worry about on their travels…

1) One size fits all clothes that absolutely do not fit

From market stalls to shopping malls, finding clothes while travelling as a plus size person is near impossible unless you’re a few miles from a Torrid or Yours Clothing store.

2) Rides and attractions that are built with smaller people in mind

Forget riding Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, as most rides do not accommodate those above a size 20.

3) Not being able to put your tray table down on a flight

These things were not built with plus size people in mind so if you want to eat mid-flight, you have to contort yourself into the weirdest of shapes just to be able to rest your food down properly.

4) Covering up in warm weather because you’re having a bad confidence day

We know it all too well. The sweating. The heat. The embarrassment.

Reminder: you absolutely do not need to cover up in the warm weather and you should wear what makes you comfortable.

5) The feeling of dread when the only bunk left in the hostel is a top bunk

Hostels are a plus size nightmare but sometimes you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. Being left with a top bunk, however, is something we’re never prepared for…

6) That uncomfortable feeling when you only JUST fit on a ride

Although you may have felt okay at the start of the ride, being thrown around in your seat can make the already tight bars a little more uncomfortable.

7) The stares and whispers from those around you

While most people are absolutely AMAZING, you can come across some terrible people when you’re travelling in a larger body. These people stare, whisper and even say exactly what they’re thinking to your face (but don’t worry, their opinions mean absolutely nothing because you are INCREDIBLE babes).

8) Chub rub, need we say more?

The dreaded ”chub rub” is every plus size travellers worst nightmare. After just a couple of hours of walking around your thighs are on fire unless you’re prepped with anti-chafing balm, chub rub shorts and talc.

9) Not fitting into the ever-shrinking seats on planes

One of the most common things we hear here at Plus Size Travel Too is that our readers are worried about whether or not they’re going to fit into their seat. With seats getting smaller, this is a scene we’re all far too familiar with…

10) The thought of climbing the ladder on your hostel bed

We’ve already mentioned the fear that comes with sleeping on a top bunk, but what about getting up those tiny, flimsy ladders? They’re definitely not built with support in mind.
