No matter where you go in the world, it seems like there’s always a diet culture waiting for you. Everywhere you turn, someone is telling you that you need to be thinner, or that you need to eat this or avoid that.
”I can’t go on holiday until I’ve lost weight, go without me”
”I REALLY need to lose 10 pounds before my trip”
”Oh, I don’t want to be too bad when we’re away, okay?”
It can be really tough to escape these messages, especially when you’re travelling and trying to enjoy yourself. But it is possible! In this blog post, we’ll give some tips on how to stay confident and happy while travelling, no matter your size or shape.
First, remember that you are exactly who you’re meant to be. There is no one “right” way to look or eat, and there’s no reason to feel guilty or ashamed of your body. You are beautiful and unique, and there’s nobody else like you in the world. So don’t let anyone tell you that you need to change anything about yourself in order to travel!
Second, remember that when you’re travelling you might be eating different foods than usual, and your body is probably reacting differently to them. This doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with it or that it needs fixing – it just means your body is processing things a little differently. So don’t beat yourself up if you feel a little bloated or if you’re gaining weight. It’s not a big deal and we’re sorry diet culture has taught you differently.
Another great tip is not to compare yourself to others. It’s incredibly easy to see someone on Instagram who looks “perfect” and want to be just like them. But it’s important to remember that social media presents an unrealistic view of what people look like. Just because you don’t have the same body type as a celebrity or influencer, doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with yours!
If you’re travelling with others, try to set boundaries about ”diet talk” with them. It can be really tough to stay positive and confident when everyone around you is talking about how they’re trying to lose weight or counting calories. So if possible, try to steer the conversation in another direction, or simply tell your friends that you don’t want to talk about diets right now.
Always remember that you are in control of your own body. Nobody can tell you what to do or how to eat – only you can make those decisions. So if you don’t want to follow a certain diet, or if you want to eat something that’s not considered “healthy”, that’s totally okay! You are the boss of your own body, and nobody else gets a say in what you do or don’t do with it.
Finally, remember that you deserve to enjoy your trip and have fun, no matter what. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! Just be confident in who you are and don’t worry about the rest of it – there will always be people out there who are trying to put you down. Focus on what makes you happy, and don’t let anyone else control your life.
We hope these tips help you escape diet culture and stay confident and happy while travelling! You’re beautiful, inside and out, and there’s nothing wrong with you. You are enough, just as you are.
